The Gordini & Albins ST6 Take Two in Baja
La Paz, BC. Mexico—In the run up to Dakar 2016, Robby Gordon and his second HST Gordini took back to back wins at the NORRA Mexican 1000 and Dos Mares 500 in Baja California, Mexico. Robby raced the newly built replica of his original HST Gordini that was designed specifically for the Dakar Rally and is equipped with the 6-speed Albins ST6-i sequential gearbox. While the elevation and temperatures of the Andes Mountains in South America cannot be replicated in Baja, Robby was very pleased with the car’s performance. The suspension, gearbox, braking and handling of the car were perfect, running flawlessly throughout the event.

In a race normally reserved for vintage off-road cars and trucks, Robby teamed up with NORRA to bring the Pro Unlimited Class into the mix at this year’s Mexican 1000. The race course traveled from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas covering a distance of over 1300 miles over the four day rally. Robby’s dad, “Baja Bob” Gordon, won the Vintage Open Buggy class and finished second overall.

Just days after his Mexican 1000 win, Robby and Team Gordon took the Gordini to La Paz for the Dos Mares 500.  The course ran from La Paz, east to San Evaristo then north along the Sea of Cortez before turning back west at Ciudad Constitution. The race finished along the Pacific coast back to La Paz. Robby’s winning time at the Dos Mares was 4 hours, 48 minutes and 28 seconds.

Over the two races, the second Gordini performed flawlessly. Racing over 1800 miles in the deserts of Baja, the Albins ST6-i passed a grueling test of durability and performance in the run up to the Dakar Rally in January 2016. No American driver or manufacturer has yet to claim the overall win at the Dakar Rally. Robby Gordon with his Albins ST6-i equipped Gordini is determined to change that.
