San Felipe, B.C., Mexico —As any race team knows, a new vehicle equals countless unknowns. Kevin Reid and the RPI Racing team arrived in San Felipe with the goal of finishing the race in their brand new AWD Alumicraft Class 1 car with off-road vet Shelby Reid and son, 2017 Baja 1000 Class 10 Champ Cody Reid, taking driving duties.

The new RPI Racing AWD Class 1 car is no regular vehicle.  Car 168 sits on 40" tires and features a 5-speed Albins AGB transaxle with an Albins AFD-100 Front Diff mated with a large block Chevy engine. It's built  to power through anything Baja can deliver.

Victory in San Felipe. The new AWD Class 1 car not only completed the brutal 280 mile course, but the RPI Racing team found themselves on top of the Class 1 podium. The team reported no mechanical issues: a dream debut for the new AWD car 168.

Four Class wins for Weddle-equipped teams. Along with RPI Racing's Class 1 win, Weddle-equipped teams found the top spot of three more podiums. After battling his way from the number 12 starting position, Chase Warren took the Class 10 win piloting Weddle S5-equipped 1088. 709 Jeff Proctor claimed another SCORE Class 7 win in the Albins ST6-equipped Honda Ridgeline. In Class 5, Greg Sullivan finished on top driving Weddle S5-equipped 508. Weddle HV1-equipped vehicles found success in the Baja Challenge Class making 3 out of the 5 vehicles completing the race.

After Baja racing's long pause in 2020, we're looking forward to a full and exciting SCORE season in 2021.
