Barstow, California — El Niño did not pull any punches on Southern California on the weekend of July 18 and Hurricane Dolores definitely did not have mercy on the Transaxle Engineering MORE Freedom 250. The race teams that descended upon Barstow for the fourth event of the MORE season were treated to unseasonal wetness and sloppy conditions on top of the already rough 42 mile race course loop.
The rain started just after the racers took off from Outlet Center Drive for the 4pm start and never let up through the finish at midnight. Racers usually welcome a little sprinkle that keeps the dust down, but Dolores brought more than a little sprinkle. The bone dry conditions before the race meant big mud holes and flash flooding with the amount of water that Dolores dumped on Barstow.

Mother nature’s curve ball was not enough to deter a tough pack of competitors. John Bartol in his Albins AGB equipped 150 unlimited buggy snagged the over-all win with a time of 5:10:20, only a mere 2 seconds faster than Eric Hardin in the Albins ST6 equipped 79 Trophy Truck that snagged second place.
Andy Marsoun in car 1036 equipped with Weddle Racing Gears, snagged first place in Class 10. He finished the race in 5:30:00. Weddle Industries had a great race day with more firsts: Class 12 winner Ralph Potts in Mendeola MD equipped car 1217, Class 16 winner Curt Geer in car 1634 sporting Weddle Racing gears, and Class 5 winner Adam Spitz in PBS equipped car 547.
A humongous congrats to all the finishers of this year's tough Freedom 250. Next up, the KC HiLites Midnight Special in September.
